Bringing a Room to Life with Timeless Elegance (French Country)

My vision for this Diy Botanical Wall Art took a bit of time to come to fruition. Imagine: You’re standing in a room that’s nearly complete—freshly painted walls, a beautifully styled vignette, the right mix of vintage and new pieces—but something is missing. That final touch, the pieces that tie everything together.

This is me right now, I’m in the middle of staging a house with a French Country aesthetic. The headboard is set, the side tables have been painted and the floral swag above the bed looks great! But I needed more to establish my design style and this wall art is exactly what I need to bring the vision to life and make this space Photography ready!

Floral Botanical prints have been a staple in European decor for centuries. In French Country homes, they add a touch of old-world charm and elegance, often displayed in distressed wooden frames or ornate gold leaf designs. Vintage Botanical Prints bring nature inside and complete the rustic elegance pivotal in French Country Decor. Did I also tell you that I love botanical prints, especially antique ones and since we photocopy these from the web the cost is pennies! This Diy Botanical Wall Art using IOD Spring Release Moulds is the perfect spring Diy tutorial when you need a little home refresh!

As I put this room together, I needed wall art that could connect the furnishing and the decorations into a cohesive look. Antique Botanical prints have that lived-in, collected-over-time feel—something that fits perfectly into my vision for this space. You can buy reproduction prints but by making the frame from moulds and choosing a print from 100’s on the internet, I arrived at diy perfection!

IOD’s Trimmings 4 mould is amazing. The details and the extra width are so reminiscent of antique picture frames. By adding the bronze and gold paint as well as the antique gel the finish appears to be gold leaf that has aged over time. My Friend Michelle has the moulds, the resin and the metallic paints on her website, SERENDIPITY HOUSE

To give my Botanical prints the look of antiques I printed them on this paper.

Step-by-Step Instructions for completing Your Diy Botanical Wall Art

Step 1: Prepping the Frame

  • My frame is new so I removed the glass and the backing and then primed the frame. If you are using a thrifted one, make sure it is free of dirt or chippy paint and put a coat of primer on it.
  • Let dry completely while you are creating the castings

Step 2: Creating & Attaching the Moulded Trim

  • I am using resin for this project but you could just as easily use air dry clay.
  • I also used a milk paint powder to dye the casting a gray color so that if the paint gets removed during the distressing process the underneath will not be white
  • Here is the step by step video showing all the steps in order.

*RESIN– Needs to be mixed exactly to the directions

  • Pour resin into the IOD Trimmings 4 mould and let it cure. 10 minutes or so
  • Once set, carefully remove the trim and fit it to the frame while it’s still flexible.
  • Adhere the moulded trim to the frame using a strong glue and let it dry completely.
  • Continue to cover the whole frame with the castings (I mitered my corners but you can cut them at the edges when the casting is still soft

Where to put your Diy Botanical Wall Art

I knew where I wanted my Botanical Wall art before I created it specifically in the guest bedroom. However if you need ideas for styling here are a few:

In a French Country dining room, layered with antique plates and candlesticks
Over a headboard with other similar prints
As part of a gallery wall, mixed with gold mirrors and botanical sketches

This wall art will be part of a full room reveal, showcasing how simple DIY thrifted pieces like this can truly elevate a space. I can’t wait to show you how it all comes together!
